Review: An Indelible Day by Cairo Marques

The author approached me to read this book and write a review. I usually don’t read short stories so I was excited to give it a go!

This story follows John C. who interacts with three different people. He first encounters Jane, the receptionist at his therapist office. He then has his session with Dr. D. And lastly, after he leaves his therapy appointment, he runs into Jasmine, his first love.

John C. comes off as a very complicated person with a past that he is trying to deal with. In this story, he seems to have some positive breakthroughs.

The story was a great example of how we interact with people and how we are different based on who we are dealing with. Each person John C. interacted with had different ideas about him and he acted differently around each of them. From reading this story, it seems that John C. is someone who is craving connection with others and is afraid that he will not be able to form those connections successfully.

You can read this story fairly quickly. However, I found myself going back and re-reading certain passages. This story is hard for me to describe because I feel like there was a lot that the author was trying to say but I didn’t always pick up on it right away. But like I said, it made me stop and think quite a few times. There is a ton of potential and I can tell how badly the author is trying to paint a picture and get the reader to understand the points he is trying to make.

I believe this story is a great quick read that will get you to think about life, how it changes us, and how we might feel if we ran into someone from our past. It also made me think about how I go about making connections with others.
